AFTER DOMINATING the Queensland under two-litre Sports Sedan scene for the past few seasons, Damien Croston is looking for a new challenge for his DCR Fabrications and Motorsport Gemini, and there is no bigger stage than the Victorian state series.
Croston plans to spend the season racing at circuits such as Sandown, Winton and Wakefield Park, with his year to kick off in earnest at the second round of the championship at the picturesque Phillip Island circuit in mid-April.
“This year there is an influx of really good under two-litre Sport Sedans in Victoria, so we’ve decided to go and see how fast we really are!” Said Croston.
“Logistically it’s a very big effort and funding will be a bit of struggle, but we really want to be racing against the best in the country.”
Although he has never raced at the southern tracks before, the challenge of learning new circuits is not going to deter the Queenslander.
“Most of all, I am looking forward to Phillip Island and Sandown.
“They are both circuits that you need good top end horsepower at, where as Wakefield Park and Winton are both very similar to our home track in Queensland, Morgan Park.
“We’ve done our homework on the competition and the circuits over the past 12 months, and it definitely won’t be a walk in the park.
“It should be close hard racing, and our aim is to stay at the pointy end of the field.”
Over the off season the team has continued to fine tune the car’s suspension and engine, with it hoped that the changes will result in a more drivable race car.
DCR Fabrications and Motorsport’s racing season kicked off in February with the Improved Production support races to the Bathurst 12 Hour, where Justin Keys set the fastest lap time for the weekend.
However, the inclement weather conspired against the Mazda RX3 driver on race day, with results not reflecting the true potential of the car or driver.
The team is also currently rebuilding Sean English’s rotary powered Ford Escort Sports Sedan for a return to Queensland state level competition this season.
DCR Fabrications and Motorsport would like to thank the ongoing support of their sponsors, especially PowerPlus Fuels, Pine Rivers Bearings, Leda Suspension, Chip Torque, Damien Emery Engineering, Brisbane Personal Watercraft Centre, Trump Card Race Products, Northside Engine Balancing and HPC Queensland.
