The Grand Prix Mazda 3 MPS of Jake Camilleri is poised for another top result at Eastern Creek Raceway this weekend for the second round of the Australian Manufacturers Championship.
After a day of chipping away at car set up, Camilleri set the seventh fastest time on the fast and flowing 3.93km long circuit, with more speed to come from the car before qualifying tomorrow.
Camilleri was pleased with the progress of the car today.
“We are really dialing the car in for race conditions with the circuit being very critical on tyre wear, and having a reliable car is the key to success,” said Camilleri.
“With new tyres on the car for tomorrow, we expect a good gain in performance.
“Eastern Creek is probably not the best circuit in the championship for the Mazda 3 MPS, but we seem to have the measure of the rest of the cars in our class, and we aren’t too far off the 4WD cars for outright honours.
“Our aim for the weekend is to get the best possible outright result.”
Team manager Joseph Camilleri is looking forward to practice, qualifying and the three-20 minute races over the weekend.
“I’m happy with the car, and I’m always very happy with the way Jake drives, he always puts in ten-tenths,” said Joseph.
“We have been chipping away at the set up all day long, and over the races we have to be smart about how we manage the front tyre wear.”
The Grand Prix Racing Mazda 3 MPS comes into the weekend a strong fourth in the overall standings, and a clear leader in class B for hot hatches and sedans, competing against cars such as the BMW 130is and Ford Falcon XR8s and XR6 Turbos.
Saturday action at Eastern Creek will feature a practice session, qualifying and the first race, before a further two races on Sunday.
Grand Prix Mazda Racing would like to thank Castrol, Esanda, Allianz and All Star Tuning Systems for their continued support.
