The WBR - Wilson Brothers Racing team today confirmed it will be running two cars at the fourth and final round of this year's Australian Manufacturers Championship, being held at Victoria's Sandown Raceway on the 29th and 30th of November.

The team’s lead driver Lee Castle will again be behind the wheel of the number 25 Subaru WRX STi, and will be looking to continue his outstanding recent form.

Castle has had a sensational debut in national level motor racing with the WBR team, and is currently leading the Class A Championship, with a virtually unbeatable points advantage.

Throughout the previous round at Tasmania’s Symmons Plains, Castle was unstoppable, winning all three races after qualifying fastest in trying conditions.

Earlier at the second round at Oran Park, a class A win in the second race proved the pace of the car and driver combination, with an overall victory just out of reach of the team.

The opening round was an up and down affair, with a rain shortened first handicap race followed by a vibration in the second race, which caused a precautionary pit stop.

However on resumption, Castle ripped around the Phillip Island Grand Prix Circuit to set a new outright Production Car lap record, and fire a warning shot to the competition.

Castle is looking forward to the Sandown round, and taking home the Class A trophy.

"Well that's half my job done; our aim for the year was to win the Class A Championship and also the Overall Drivers Championship,” said Castle.

“It appears that because of the extra points awarded to the Class D contenders, that I am no chance of securing this title.

"It's disappointing considering that if the points were awarded consistently through each class, then I would be leading the overall championship as well heading into this round."

“However we have been informed that there will be another new title awarded to the winner of the overall driver’s championship using the point score system used in the past three seasons, so I am certainly keen on securing that title, and will need a strong round at Sandown to do so.”

The WBR team’s second car, the #26 Subaru WRX STi has also been entered for this event.

The driver is currently listed as a TBA, however WBR team principal Cam Wilson is certain that the car will take to the track after regular driver Brian Smallwood crashed heavily at Phillip Island.

"Thankfully the car was not damaged as bad as it looked, it has taken quite a bit of time to make sure the repairs have been carried out to our satisfaction,” said Wilson.

“Essentially it really was just a cosmetic crash, with majority of the mechanicals being untouched.

"I’m in talks with several people who wish to drive our cars at next years Bathurst 12 Hour, and this Sandown meeting really is a great chance for them to get up to speed with the car and the team before the event.”

Wilson Brothers Racing are busy boys and girls with a total of five different race meetings in three states in six weeks, with a total of 10 cars in three different categories in the run up to the end of the season.
